Maura & Gretchen are co-founders of the Little Zebra Fund. Their paths first crossed during medical genetics fellowship training, where they discovered a mutual desire to solve the health inequity facing many of their undiagnosed patients. This shared passion led to the creation of the Little Zebra Fund.

The decision to name the organization The Little Zebra Fund was as clear as the problem they planned to address.
There is a well-known aphorism used in medical training to remind physicians
to consider more common diagnoses first.

When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras
— Dr. Theodore Woodward

As geneticists, we specialize in making rare diagnoses after the more common diagnoses have been ruled out.
Thus, Little Zebras affectionately refers to the patients we serve & treat.
